Bruker CTX Portable Benchtop XRF

Portable benchtop XRF analyser for fast, non-destructive elemental analysis

Portable benchtop design (<7.5 kg) for laboratory, field and industrial use
Patented DetectorShield™ protects the detector window from accidental damage and reduces servicing needs
SharpBeam™ collimation ensures consistent sample presentation with defined index markings
Dual safety interlock system providing controlled, safe operation in routine workflows
Element coverage from Mg to U, depending on the model (CTX 500 / 500S / 800)

The Bruker CTX Portable XRF is a compact benchtop X-ray fluorescence (XRF) analyser used for non-destructive elemental analysis across metals, minerals, soils, oils, powders and manufactured materials. Its fixed-beam geometry and SharpBeam™ collimation provide reproducible measurement conditions compared with handheld XRF, making it suitable for workflows where sample presentation and analytical stability are essential.

The CTX configuration is used widely for PMI testing, scrap sorting, geochemical screening, soil heavy-metal analysis, RoHS compliance checks, and routine QC across production environments. DetectorShield™ protects the SDD window against abrasive or irregular surfaces, reducing downtime in high-throughput metal and mining applications.

CTX instruments are available in three analytical ranges (500 / 500S / 800) covering heavy-element alloys, major/minor element quantification, and extended light-element performance for Mg–P characterisation.

Applications

1.Metals, Alloys & PMI

Used for PMI testing, alloy verification, scrap-metal sorting, stainless steels, nickel alloys, aluminium alloys and copper-based materials. Suitable for melt-shop QC, incoming goods inspection and metal recycling workflows.

2. Oil, Fuel & Lubricant XRF Analysis

Determines wear metals, sulphur, additives and contamination in fuels and lubricants. Used in refineries, marine maintenance labs and rotating-equipment condition monitoring.

3. Mining, Minerals & Geochemical XRF

Elemental analysis of drill-core sections, crushed rock, soils and sediments for exploration and process control. Supports geochemical XRF, ore characterisation and grade control.

4. Environmental & Soil Analysis

Screening soils, sludges and sediments for arsenic, lead, chromium and other heavy metals. Used in environmental assessment, site surveys and nutrient profiling.

5. Polymers, Plastics & RoHS Screening

Halogen, bromine and additive determination in plastics and manufactured components. Suitable for RoHS / WEEE compliance testing.

6. Food & Feed Elemental Testing

Rapid mineral and heavy-metal analysis in powdered foods, grains and feed formulations for QA and regulatory monitoring.

7. Cement, Ceramics & Building Materials

Ca/Si/Fe ratios, clinker chemistry and raw-material composition using XRF for cement manufacturing and construction-material QC.

8. Pharmaceutical & Chemical Production

Screening catalysts, intermediates and raw materials for elemental contamination and batch consistency.

9. Archaeology, Art & Heritage Science

Non-destructive XRF for artefacts, coins, pigments, ceramics and composite historical objects where sampling is not permitted.

Labquip NDT Support

  • Labquip NDT provides technical guidance on CTX model selection, matching detector capability and analytical range to specific workflows and budgets.
  • Demonstrations are available on request and can be carried out at customer sites across the UK.
  • We also provide routine maintenance and system checks to keep the analyser operating within specification.
